64. VPC Peering route propagation and limitations
How routes are manually added for peering, and the transitive routing limitation for VPC peering.
AWS
VPC Peering route propagation and limitations
VPC peering connects two VPCs, but routes must be added manually and peering is not transitive across multiple peer links.
"I connected my VPCs, why can't instances in VPC A reach VPC C through VPC B?"
VPC peering creates a private network link between two VPCs; you must add explicit route table entries in each VPC for the peering connection, and AWS will not forward traffic from a peer to a third VPC (no transitive routing).
