Two ways to get private network connectivity to AWS: a dedicated port you order from AWS, or a partner-hosted circuit provisioned by a Network Provider.

Dedicated Direct Connect is an AWS-provisioned physical port at an AWS Direct Connect location that you own and manage; hosted (partner) Direct Connect is a virtual connection sold and provisioned by an AWS Direct Connect Partner over their physical port.
