Reducing Halo and Horn Effects
Techniques to prevent one strong positive or negative trait from skewing your overall assessment of a candidate.
"I loved their last job title, but I need to be sure that doesn't make me overlook gaps in other areas."
Halo effect is when one desirable trait inflates your view of unrelated qualities; horn effect is the opposite, where one negative trait unfairly lowers your overall judgment. Reducing these means using structured, evidence-based practices so each skill is judged on its own merits.
