Adding field to Values area
Dragging a field into the Values area tells Excel how to summarize that field (sum, count, average, etc.).
"I want a single number that summarizes this column so I can compare groups quickly."
When you place a field into the Values area of a PivotTable or PivotChart, Excel aggregates that field across the grouping axes using a summary function (Sum, Count, Average, etc.), producing the numeric summaries shown in the table or chart.
