Affinity Bias in Hiring
Affinity bias is the tendency to prefer candidates who seem similar to ourselves, which can skew hiring decisions.
"I unknowingly favor people who went to my school or share my hobbies, and that narrows our candidate pool."
Affinity bias is an unconscious preference for people who resemble us (background, interests, alma mater), and in hiring it causes over-selection of similar candidates and underrepresentation of diverse talent.
