Database connectors (ODBC/SQL)
Power Query's database connectors let Excel fetch table/query results from databases (ODBC, SQL Server, etc.) into a worksheet or data model.
"I want Excel to pull only the rows I need from the database, not fetch everything and filter locally."
Database connectors in Power Query (like Sql.Database and Odbc.DataSource) open a live connection to a database, let you send SQL or apply M transforms, and import results into Excel; whether transforms run on the server or locally depends on the connector and operations (query folding).
