Designing idempotent endpoints
An idempotent endpoint produces the same effect no matter how many times the same request is applied.
"I retried a payment and charged the user twice — how do I stop this?"
Idempotency means repeated identical requests leave the system in the same state as a single request; for HTTP APIs, it prevents duplicate side effects when clients retry.
